Korra works hard to stay in shape. A lifetime of conflict and service to Starfleet has given her a fit figure. She works hard on maintaining her muscular physique, especially her arms and shoulders. Korra will change her hair color on a whim, but hasn’t for a last little while. Much of her off duty wear is chosen with comfort in mind, but also with a distinctly Bajoran flair. While her style has expanded from her time in Korra always endeavors to emphasize her heritage. Korra also always has her earring on representing her heritage and faith in the profits. The silver earring sits on her lobe, with a cascading dangling piece with several small purple gems. The two pieces of her earring are connected by a thin double chain. Korra owns quite a bit of sports wear related to her home provence Rakantha Ironwings. She will always wear something of theirs on a game day. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Like most Bajoran women Korra is outspoken, confident, and daring; some would argue that she is actually aggressive, stubborn. The thing is they may not be wrong. A Bajoran growing up off-world and not in a refugee camp during the Occupation, Korra and her siblings have often been outsiders. Korra always had something to prove, growing up among non-Bajorans, then being one of the first Bajorans to enter Starfleet, then returning to Bajor, it has always felt she has eyes on her. Despite this Korra is dedicated and loyal to the Federation. Korra is proud to be a Bajoran and of her people’s heritage, needing to leave Bajor as her family did only strengthened her need to be connected to her culture. Korra has always had a strong belief in the Prophets, although she often questioned why their gods let the Occupation happen in the first place. This conflict in her faith was something hard to overcome and for many years she struggled, especially early in her career and reconnecting with her extended family. After the war Korra's personality became far more stoic and intense, she'd lost a lot of friends and became far more protective of those that were left. This goes doubly, quadrupedally so for her children; her daughters are her focus and also her blind spot. Like any mother there's nothing she wouldn't do for them, or to protect them. Korra is a little gun-shy when it comes to relationships, the last time she settled down she thought it was for life. Instead she ended up in a marriage that only lasted as long as it did because of her children. Since then she's barely had a fling, devoting herself fully to her job. Korra is as close to the rest of her family as she is to her children. It took her a while to get her more extended family to accept her and that strained her relationship with them and her parents for a time. Many have come around to her way of thinking about the Federation, but there are still those more extreme elements of her extended family. |

| Hobbies & Interests | Korra wouldn’t describe it as a hobby or anything like that but a lifetime of security work and not one but two pregnancies; Korra is very active and has a very strict routine. On many of her assignments she also teaches self-defense classes based on Bajoran martial art forms. Korra enjoys being a teacher, helping those who are curious and dedicated to improve their skills and protect themselves. Korra has a special love of Bajoran history. Her dual upbringing of Bajoran and Federation gives her a unique perspective on ancient teachings. She loves looking through records and hearing theories about the ancient ways of her people. The way the prophets have always been with them and yet are relatively new. Several times when she’s been home she’s taken journeys to ancient historical sites all over the planet. Like most Bajorans, Korra has taken to the human sport of baseball; she'd heard about it growing up but never got into it until Captain Sisko became the Emissary. Like the rest of her family she is a Rakantha Ironwings supporter, it’s actually one of the things that brought her closer with those who didn’t escape Bajor. Korra never misses a game, always setting aside a portion of her monthly data transfer limit to get a holo-file of a game. Her own talent in the sport is fairly average for an athletic woman, she still enjoys every game she gets to play. |
| Personal History | Born in Lahsan Village, Rakantha Provence, she is the eldest of three children. Her parents, farmers by trade, wanted to keep their children as far away from the fighting and hardships as possible. Not the easiest feat for a child as rambunctious and adventurous as Korra. It was a rare night she wasn't out in their katterpot fields or climbing into the hills to watch the stars. Her father would often follow her to make sure she was safe. For several years it worked, even as her younger siblings were born and the situation on Bajor worsened. But as time passed it was harder and harder to keep a mind like Korra’s distracted. She would see what happened to their people, be angry and scared when she saw Cardassians. Cardassian troops more frequently appeared in their village or the surrounding hills. The members of her family, aunts and uncles that had been staples through her life were around less and less; Her parents, always composed, were more and more frazzled by the day. One day it all came crashing down. Her uncle Aldos came to their house late at night and the next morning her parents told Korra they would have to leave, she needed to look after her baby brother and sister. She didn't understand, this was her home, it wasn't fair. But there was no arguing, in days, her family, their few belongings and a cutting of their Ilal tree were stuffed in the cargo hold of a transport and they left Bajor. Korra had no sense of time in the transport, she was confused and angry and tired. But at the same time she was awestruck, she was in space. She'd always wanted to leave the planet, but not like this. Their journey lasted at least two harrowing weeks, her parents were stressed the whole time, especially when they traveled through the plasma storms of the Badlands. Korra thought they were beautiful in their own terrifying way. Delon 5, a Federation colony near Betazed was their new home; they been spirted away by the resistance with help of Starfleet Intelligence. Her parents were more than simple farmers, they were rather high ranking members of their resistance cell. They coordinated attacks, sold information, made contacts off world. The Cardassian efforts had been set back years because of what her parents did. But the Cardassians had started getting closer, so they used their exit strategy, it was time to leave. She would learn later how many of her family didn’t agree with her parent’s decision. As she grew up and more and more news of Bajor leaked out into the Federation she didn’t either. Perhaps it was teenage angst or guilt, or a combination of both but Korra felt like she should have been back on Bajor; she should be there with her family and her people. But she couldn’t leave her siblings. For years her frustrations had little outlet, she would get in trouble at school, argue with teachers who refused to teach about the plight of her people. These frustrations drove a wedge between Korra and her parents that would last for years. They led her to join student government on the colony, organize a Bajoran cultural club at her school, and eventually led her to joining Starfleet. Korra’s hope was that more of her people joined along with the growing conflicts with the Federation could lead to Bajor’s liberation. Her time at the Academy wasn’t as easy and full of support as she hoped. There was far more learning, theory and discussion than she expected. She grated against the curriculum, the lack of military preparedness and action, there were moments her temper almost led her to quit. But her stubbornness wouldn’t let her, and ironically neither would her parents. So she stuck with it, applied herself, continued to speak out when she could but Korra wouldn't give up. She also found during her time at the Academy that while her focus might be Security she had an aptitude for Operations, organization and even a bit of technical skill. Korra’s first assignment out of the Academy was to the USS Amaterasu, an Excelsior class cruiser assigned to the Romulan Border. Korra was frustrated at first, she wanted to serve on the Cardassian front. Making her opinion known didn’t win her any popularity contests aboard ship, at least not with the senior staff. Thankfully, for Korra’ sake her Chief was more patient than she was annoying. He put up with her for a time before finally laying it all out for her. A veteran of the first Cardassian engagements, Lieutenant Yamamoto knew that it would only be so long before Korra would get her chance to fight the Cardassians. He was right. The Amaterasu was assigned to the border; they had their first engagements against the Cardassians within a week. Korra had honestly been terrified, it wasn’t like what she expected, but like all her instructors told her, training took over. More than once Korra manned tactical or been assigned to ground operations on a border colony. Her longest assignment was 3 weeks of ferocious fighting on Volan II. It was so much like her Delon V, she could have sworn the streets she walked now were the same she grew up on. It made the fight even more personal and more viscous. Korra distinguished herself in battle more than once, it earned her a promotion to the Kumari, but her recklessness earned her a reputation as well. It was here she met a fellow Bajoran Wakkon Oza, a Science Officer aboard ship; she quickly developed a crush on him. It was so nice to actually have someone around who understood her life, her people. Within a year they were married and their first daughter was on the way. Being pregnant was a struggle to say the least. Even after Jalah was born, there was surprise that she didn’t ask for reassignment, and even some of her own when the Captain didn’t make her. Wakkon was the most incredulous, he had taken another assignment and had assumed she would be joining him. It was the first major strain on their marriage, and sadly not the last. By the time the war was winding down the Kumari was no longer the fresh off the line, shiny hulled ship, and neither was their crew. They’d seen a lot of action in the last five years, Korra had lost friends and had a few near misses herself. Their mission switching from open combat to relief, support and relocation (when needed) rumors began swirling of a treaty with Cardassia. Korra just hoped that the war wouldn’t end without freedom for Bajor. Raising a child basically on her own wasn’t exactly the best situation, Korra needed help she needed her family back together. So she put in for a transfer hoping that she could be at least assigned to the same sector. Luckily she was able to secure an assignment as Chief of Security to the Challenger, the same ship as Wakkon. For a time they were both very happy, the Federation was at peace, they were once again on the same ship, both had advanced their careers, things were good, for a time. Their second child was born a year later, strain returned, careers were taking more importance. It was only because of being assigned to a Galaxy class starship that the support was there for the family. Korra had expected more from Wakkon, that he’d be more involved, yet despite being a member of the Senior Staff she spent more time taking care of their daughters than he did. Pointing this out did not get her much of anywhere. Around this time Starfleet started calling for any and all Bajoran officers who were willing to be assigned to DS9 or other assignments in the Bajor system. Korra had been back once since the Cardassian pullout, she’d checked on the family farm hoping that it would be intact. Since then she’d been meaning to go back but her marital issues had taken all of her time not devoted to her girls. In an attempt to give their marriage one last shot, and return home, Korra worked to secure a transfer for both herself and Wakkon to positions on Bajor. All seemed set but Wakkon at the last minute took an assignment on the Sovereign project. Korra was furious, he had abandoned her and their children. But not matter how much she screamed into the void there was little she could do, she had to focus on her family. Korra’s new position was going to take quite bit of her time. Liaison from the Command at Deep Space Nine to Bajoran Planetary Operations. Her list of duties was almost as long and convoluted as her title. Thankfully her parents had decided to return to their village and they were able to help take care of the girls. Her mother of course had to make herself important and took on a leadership role in their local community. Despite how trying it was to be a single mother and all the trials that Bajor faced in three years, Korra thrived in her position. Waon stayed in their lives, but only just enough to be the good parent in their children’s good graces. He always seemed to appear just when she and Jalah were fighting. It was frustrating to say the least. By 2373 the pair were fully estranged and Korra was considering a divorce. The universe had a way of interrupting her best laid plans. War with the Dominion was inevitable, Korra could see it, her parents could see it, hell even her kids could see it. With the signing of the Bajoran/Dominion non-aggression pact… Well Korra started to make arrangements, her girls were citizens of Bajor and would be protected. The girls would stay with her parents, no matter what happened in the next few days they would be safe. Just before the war kicked off Korra and many other officers were pulled off of Bajor and DS9 to staff other vessels. Korra herself was assigned to the USS Taniwha and Akira Class Heavy Cruiser as Chief of Security. Despite spending the last three years in operations and administration it was clear what part of her skills Starfleet needed the most. The Taniwha was assigned to the 9th Fleet and spent the first several months of the war on the front lines almost constantly. For Korra it was slipping on an old and somewhat uncomfortable glove. Fighting the Cardassians this time felt different, the tactics might have been the same, the ships they were fighting were largely the same; but something about this fight was different. Sure the Dominion added an extra wrinkle, but this war was more brutal, more personal. Even with her prior experience it all weighed heavier on her. Knowing this she tried to be there for the crew, especially those who were younger. Perhaps because she couldn’t be there for her kids she could at least be there for others. Fighting in some of the bloodiest battles of the war, the crew of the Taniwha adapted very quickly. Aggressive bold action, going punch for punch with Cardassian and Dominion ships, initiative, always taking the initiative. The Tani took a pounding, battle damage never truly went away, injuries among the crew were constant. They did this for over two years, day in and day out, in space and on the ground. Korra herself earned more than a few new scars, a new appreciation for leave and being able to return to Bajor and see her kids. She also gained quite a bit of experience cobbling together ship systems and fixes to keep the Tani in the fight. When the war was finally over, it was weeks before the Tani docked at a friendly port under her own power. Heavily damaged in the final battle, she was towed to Cardassia and the crew served as a part of the ground Security and Relief contingent until she was spaceworthy again. Korra had grown up hating Cardassians, wishing that they could live in fear and feel what she and her family felt everyday. But seeing it first hand, seeing her wish come true, seeing Cardassian children on the street, in emergency centers. All she could think of was her own daughters, her parents, their farm. Getting home was a relief, seeing her girls, her family, they’d grown so much in the last few years, had to become so much more independent. Korra needed to be home and be around them more, but she also needed to do something that they could be proud of. Requesting a transfer back to Bajor and back to Planetary Operations; her request was approved but with a caveat. Starfleet and the Federation were already planning a repopulation of New Bajor in the Gamma Quadrant. If she really wanted to be back on Bajor she’d be playing a major role in that operation. While she didn’t want to be away from her girls again, she did want to be home. So she accepted the position, a posting to Bajoran Planetary Operations with a secondary position aboard the USS San Jose as Chief of Operations and Second Officer. |
