Personality & Traits

General Overview Warm, outgoing, and highly empathetic, Saori possesses an unusually strong ability to connect with people from all walks of life. These could be junior ensigns fresh from the Academy or seasoned veterans carrying the emotional scars of the Dominion and Cardassian Border Wars. Her naturally friendly demeanor and emotional openness often make her seem less intimidating than many department heads, though those who underestimate her professionalism quickly discover a highly capable and perceptive officer beneath the charm.

Saori is a natural at social interaction and thrives in social environments. She often frequents ship lounges, and the other communal areas. She remembers peoples personal details clearly, especially if she remembers their face. She often can recall someones name after a single meeting, and likes to spread a little bit of gossip every now and again; just as long as its not hurting anyone.

Saori is by the definition a hopeless romantic. Even at thirty five she is still 'looking for the right man', and firmly believes that one day he will arrive and she will be swept off her feet like a princess. She also makes no effort to hide this, and also had a tendacy to become involved in other people romantic relationships as a guide or advice giver.

She has a habit of taking younger officers 'under her wing' and becoming a mentoring figure towards them. She likes to help others when it comes to tasks and learning, and she is often compassionate and empathic towards the newer younger crew.

Personal History Saori was born in Yokosuka on Earth in 2341. She was born into a multi-culutural family. Her mother being originally Irish and her father being Japanese. Even as a young child, she was known for being empathic and compassionate towards others. She was always the peacemaker and the one breaking fights or arguments up with creative solutions.

When she was four years old, her younger sister Niamh was born into the family. She took pride in being the big sister type towards her. However she did have a slight mischeavous side, helping her little sister get what she wanted. They often teamed up together against their parents.

Throughout her early teenage years, Saori was one day hoping to be a nurse or doctor. Although she was rather intelligent, she wasn't very academic and the whole 'Medical Jargon' often confused her. However she did excel at personal and culture studies. At age sixteen, she was so heavily invested in learning about cultures, she was recommended to become a cultural science officer in Starfleet.

Another drive in her desire to join Starfleet was to one day meet the right man. She had more 'options' as she put it in Starfleet than anywhere else. She worked hard and began to teach herself other sciences. She also discovered that she was good at the majority of sciences. Especially astrophysics.

At age eighteen she enlisted in Starfleet Academy. She signed upto the Sciences Division immediately. She wasn't interested in commanding a ship, or being an engineer or anyone who had anything to do with tactical. She focused heavily on exobiology, xenocultures, astrophysics and stellar sciences.

She was known around the Academy practically from the first day. Over her first four years she developed a reputation for being the person who was easy to talk to, and trusting. Other cadets came to her with their problems. So much so, that one of the Counselling professors tried to pursuade her to go into counselling. However she was far too focused on sciences.

She also took an extra optional at the Academy, advancing her knowledge of chemistry as well as basic engineering and Starship operations knowledge. She wanted to become a good 'All rounder' type of Science Officer, but still have some sort of speciality.

In 2363, Saori graduated the Academy. She was assigned as a Junior Science Officer aboard the USS Kyoto, an ageing Miranda Class Starship. aori quickly discovered that life aboard an operational starship was far less romantic than holonovels and Academy simulations suggested. Long shifts, equipment failures, difficult senior officers, and the realities of deep-space isolation challenged her early optimism.

Despite this, Saori adapted rapidly thanks to her determination and strong interpersonal skills. While she was not considered the most technically gifted officer within the science department, she developed a reputation for being exceptionally reliable and always welcoming.

She stayed aboard the Kyoto for four years, making friends along the way. Becoming the warming officer that brought smiles to others faces. The Kyoto was finally mothballed after its long service and the crew were transferred. Saori was sad to see the people she cared for being split up.

She then found herself on the USS Lexington, with a half pip collar now next to her full pip. As a Lieutenant Junior Grade, she was assigned to the Lexington as a Science Officer. No longer a full junior rank, she was happy to be given more responsibility. Of course she soon developed her reputation for being the 'gossip girl' aboard the ship, but it was always in good fun. She was also known by the majority of the crew that she was single, yet all of her dates had either ended in disaster or never actually happened. Her philosophy of waiting for the right man for her was well known and often spoke about when she wasn't in the room.

However she was well respected and liked. Being a social butterfly, with an understanding of cultures and being friendly and welcoming, she was often welcome and invited to many tables in the ships lounges.

In 2369, with the crew promotions, Saori found herself making the rank of Full Lieutenant as well as the ships Assistant Chief Science Officer. She enjoyed being on the Lexington as it was heavily devoted to science. However it soon became apparant that she needed to move to something a little different so that she could progress and see more. She didn't come to this decision lightly as she loved the Lexington and her job. However she had a craving to see more. Plus, there were more people on others ships she had not yet met (And potential to find her right man of course!)

Therefore in 2372, she ended up signing onto the USS Trafalgar an old Excelsior Class. Saori will happily admit that the Trafalgar had its charm with it being an older ship. It was an interesting experience being on the Trafalgar, but that soon changed as in 2373 the Dominion War broke out.

Saori suddenly found herself along with the rest of the Trafalgar's crew on the front lines. As someone who hates conflict of any sort, she often found herself wondering why wars even started to begin with and why wasn't space big enough for everyone in it. Afterall, being a science officer she knew full well that space is big. Very big.

However her time aboard the Trafalgar came to a swift end as in 2374. The Trafalgar was part of the seventh fleet which was destroyed attempting to prevent the invasion of the Dominion in the Tyra System. Thousands of Starfleet officers were lost in the battle, and Saorin become emotionally distressed and even depressed when she recalls the events. Along with only thirty survivors of the Trafalgar, she spent three weeks in an escape pod until she was picked up by another Starfleet Vessel.

Taken back to Earth, Saori was given physiciatric treatment. Although she remained optimistic, she was often told to not hold it in. She tried her best and even to this day still gets emotional about being a survivor from the Trafalgar whilst others died. After three months of leave, she was assigned to the USS Bradbury.

The Bradbury was an old Miranda Class Starship which was quickly pressed into service due to the war. She was immediately pushed into the position of the ships Chief Science Officer. Only the Bradbury was assigned to patrol borders and space shipping lanes away from the front lines. The ship itself was far too old and wasn't suited for combat against the Dominion. So whilst other ships were assigned to the front lines, the Bradbury was doing the 'dirty work' behind the scenes. It was essentially an 'odd jobs' ship.

Although it didn't do much exploration, and its missions comprised of small patrols, cargo runs and the occassional survey Saori found it relaxing to be aboard. She was away from the front lines. She didn't want to return to the conflict, and she only wanted to do what she was good at. Although, she often found herself twiddling her thumbs because most of the Bradbury's missions didn't have much to do with science.

After a year aboard the Bradbury, Saori had finally grown bored of being on a ship that was a gloirified cargo freighter with a Starfleet Logo slapped on the side. Now with the war over, Saori wanted to help those affected by the war and learn and see more. She requested an assignment to an exploration or vessel with scientific missions. She was soon snapped up by the USS Venture, a Galaxy Class Starship as its Chief Science Officer. Starfleet also pushed foward her promotion to Lieutenant Commander.

Excited, Saori packed her bags and headed for the Venture. She was eager to serve on a Galaxy Class Starships, they were seen as the top of the line and prestiguious assigments. Plus, they had large crew compliments. Everything she ever wanted.
