Captain’s Log Stardate 23768.07

The Venture, accompanied by the USS Alliance, USS Crimson Tide and USS San Jose, has departed Deep Space Nine. We’ve completed our crossing of the Bajoran Wormhole and are now making our way through the cusps of the Starfleet Control Zone on our way to New Bajor.

Due to the nature of cargo that is being tugged behind the San Jose we continue onwards at a measly warp 1.5. I understand from Captain Rhys that this is because the stasis fields used to secure some of the more delegate biological material are susceptible to subspace flux which becomes more unpredictable at higher rates of knots.

Overall, the crew is performing well in their first mission together. They seem to be settling into their posts and despite the issues before leaving the Yard at Earth I’m glad to say that the Venture is operating well and her corridors are look spick and span.

Today’s agenda is pretty light as I don’t want to push the crew too early. However, the Executive Officer, Chief Security Officer and Chief Science Officer and I have been summoned by the Chief Security Officer of the San Jose to be briefed on a potential security incident.

It will take us another 5 days to reach New Bajor. I’ll be honest, this makes me uneasy. It has been sometime since I’ve been in the Gamma Quadrant before and from those experiences I’m finding myself feeling ever so slightly anxious.

I half expect that a red alert will sound and we’ll have Jem Ha’dar ships bearing down on us … I would much rather be at a higher cruising velocity. I appreciate that this far into the Pale, we’re unlikely to ever be in immediate danger - but I can’t just shake this feeling I have in my gut.

Hmm, maybe Em was right and I should speak with the Counsellor.
